IAA’s latest IX Attracting New Peers

Internet service provider, AARNET is the latest member to take advantage of IAA’s network expansion into NextDC’s C1 location. More members will be coming on board shortly, as well as a Google Global Cache device.

NextDC C1 is Canberra’s most connected data centre and IAA is currently offering options of 10G and 40G ports, with Extended Reach and VLL’s back to Sydney.

Additional services to Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide will be available from Q2 of 2020, providing members with greater scope for their peering needs in the Australian Capital Territory.

Familiar Face to Rejoin the IAA Board

IAA Chair David Hooton is pleased to announce the re-appointment of a Matthew Enger to the IAA board.  Matthew will rejoin as a Professional Representative, filling an open vacancy on the board.

For those who don’t already know Matthew, he is currently Managing Director at IX Integration. He has over 15 years’ worth of small business telco and ISP experience, including starting up his own business, Leap Telecommunications in 2015.

Excited by the opportunity, Matthew is looking forward to representing the professional members interests.

“IAA is already off to a big start to the year with the hosting of APRICOT and the launch of the new IX in Canberra. I am keen to work with the team on the plans for 2020 and beyond.”

Internet Community Respond to IAA Disaster relief

As we all watch on in shock at the impacts of Australia’s bushfire season on our beautiful country, and see communities devastated by the fires, IAA as an organisation felt compelled to reach out to our own community to see how we could help.

Many of our members have been affected by the fires and with regional communities impacted by outages, IAA have set up a relief pool with the aim of coordinating offers of support with those in need.

Are you or your business in need of equipment or practical assistance? Do you have anything that you could offer to help in this current situation?

IAA’s donation relief coordination is receiving positive response from the industry with many of our members making generous offers of networking equipment and personal time. The initiative was also mentioned in a recent article in the ITNews.

A list of items needed and on offer can be found on the IAA website. Examples include handheld radios, technical and infrastructure support and storage capacity. As soon as it is safe to do so we will do our best to coordinate getting people and gear into the areas of need.

APRICOT 2020 Workshops

Only one month until APRICOT 2020 in Melbourne!

Have you registered for the conference yet? IAA members continue to receive discounted registration by using the promo code IAAMEMBER.

As in previous years, APRICOT 2020 will commence with a series of technical workshops prior to the conference.

The full five-day courses focus on key technical and operational subject areas and are usually highly interactive and include lab time or practical demonstration. Great for professional development, the workshops also help to brush up on or learn new skills in network and routing security, network monitoring, SDN, or virtualisation and cloud computing.

All workshops currently have availability, but numbers are limited, and workshops will close once full. For course content and requirements visit the APRICOT website

In addition, APNIC will be hosting its third Hackathon during this year’s conference. Applications are staying open for an additional week. If you are interested in taking part, register TODAY. It is FREE!

Participation is open to all. Candidates will be selected based on their skills, with the committee also considering diversity and geographic spread. You do not need to know a specific programming language or technology, but you must bring your own computer to the Hackathon.
