IAA Plans for the Future

The Internet Association of Australia Inc (IAA) has experienced significant growth over the past few years, with expansion of the IX Australia network services, growth in membership across Australia, and now with a team of five staff to drive the daily operations.

“The tremendous growth of IAA and its services is a reflection of the great work our team is doing” said Association Chair, David Hooton. “It is the responsibility of the board to help guide the Association through continued growth and provide strategic direction for the future.”

Earlier this month the IAA Board members met together in Sydney for a facilitated planning session to discuss the strategic direction of the Association. Under the guidance of John Peacock of the Associations Forum, the Board undertook a day of detailed discussions on the strategic direction of the Association, and how to achieve these goals. This session built on an earlier planning session undertaken in February.

“Maintaining a strong level of service delivery is an important focus for us, we are now focussed on ways the Association can better support our members.”

A feedback session was held with the operational team allowing ideas and input from the front line, ensuring the board were well informed ahead of the session. The results of the recent member survey also informed the board on products and services that are important to members.

“Our recent member survey shows that members would like to see the Association have a stronger voice representing the industry, with a majority of respondents agreeing we should undertake industry advocacy, and more than half of those saying we should do more. As a result the strategic plan the board has developed outlines our commitment to develop our efforts in a range of areas including advocacy and industry education.”

In order to deliver on the plan to build the advocacy and education role of the Association, the Board have allocated additional resources to the operational team. This includes engaging a senior operational leader as Chief Executive Officer.

“This is an exciting time for the Association, as we continue to grow and support both our members and the industry,” said Hooton. “The engagement of a Chief Executive Officer will help drive these initiatives forward to benefit members and the Association.”

We are keen to hear members thoughts on the IAA Strategic Plan, and welcome any feedback via phone 1300 653 132 or email info@internet.asn.au.
